July is Sarcoma Awareness Month

sarcoma-share,use,commercialJuly is named National Sarcoma Awareness Month by American Cancer Society. Millennium Physicians Association supports and spreads awareness of all types of cancer, including sarcoma.

Here is some basic information to keep you aware.

Sarcoma is a cancer that develops in different connective tissues in your body. Sarcoma tumors, or sarcomas, are cancerous and can be found in areas like the bones, muscles, blood vessels and cartilage. They are not the most common tumors, but can be found in any part of the body.

Carcinoma is the most common type of cancer. Sarcoma and carcinoma differ, because they come from certain types of cells within the body. You can also differentiate the two by the way tumors spread or grow. Carcinomas have a tendency to be more sporadically and infiltrate adjacent body or organ structures. Sarcomas like to stay local and around the original tumor site. The most common areas of the body that sarcomas spread to are bones, lungs and liver.
